Our markdown editor was introduced a short while back as a result of positive feedback. One of the things we wanted to add as an small enhancement was the ability to make things easier for those of you not quite familiar it.
With markdown preview, you can type away without fearing what your reply might look like on the other end. While it’s not as foolproof as something like the Gmail text editor, we think it’s a big step up from a lot of other HTML-based editors that are finicky at best.
We don’t see the preview feature to be terribly useful for those of you who truly enjoy the simplicity and cleanliness of markdown. Our best guess is that you’re already quite comfortable with the editor. That’s why the preview feature is tucked into the bottom right-hand corner where it won’t intrude anyone’s typing experience.
